Queen Sofia pays tribute to Diego de Gardoqui in New York City
On Wednesday, Queen Sofia unveiled a plaque honoring Diego de Gardoqui, Spain's first ambassador to the United States, in New York City. The plaque is located at St. Peter's Church, the church of which Diego de Gardoqui laid the cornerstone on November 4, 1785, 240 years ago.
Queen Sofia then attended the commemorative event “Diego de Gardoqui: Spain in 18th Century New York” held at the Cervantes Institute. Queen Sofia wore her Alejandro de Miguel blue suit.
