Dutch State Visit to Suriname - Day 1
On Monday, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima started a three-day state visit to Suriname. They were first officially welcomed by President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons and her husband at the Presidential Palace.
Afterward, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima laid a wreath at the statue of Mama Sranan, which symbolizes "Mother Suriname."
The Royal Couple then visited the National Assembly of Suriname where King Willem-Alexander made a short speech.
In the afternoon, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the Court of Justice where they spoke with the President of the Court and several judges about the importance of judicial independence in a democratic constitutional state.
Afterward, they met with representatives of descendants of enslaved people and indigenous communities in Suriname. Suriname is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its independence from the Kingdom of the Netherlands this year.
In the evening, the Presidential Couple hosted a gala dinner for King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima.
Queen Maxima first wore a Natan dress with her Gianvito Rossi pumps. She paired the outfit with her Patek Philippe watch.
