Queen Maxima visits South Africa - Day 1

On Tuesday, Queen Maxima started a three-day official visit to South Africa in her role as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA).

She first visited the Isivivana Community Center in Khayelitsha to learn more about their participation in a stokvel. This is an informal savings or credit association that is particularly popular among low-income communities.

Afterward, Queen Maxima visited Spoon Money, a purpose-led fintech supporting women street vendors by offering a combination of formal savings, responsible credit, and low-risk investment opportunities.

Queen Maxima then visited Discovery Bank to hear about their work encouraging clients to adopt healthier financial habits and improve their long-term financial health. She also met with the CEO of JUMO, Andrew Watkins-Ball, a technology platform expanding access to inclusive financial services, and Trevor Manuel, former Minister of Finance and Chair of the G20 Africa Expert Panel.

Queen Maxima wore her Dries Van Noten suit with her Gianvito Rossi pumps and her Marni bag.
