The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh visit Japan - Day 1
On Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh started an official visit to Japan. They first attended a MUSUBI Initiative Reception at the British Embassy in Tokyo. The MUSUBI Initiative was launched at the Osaka World Expo 2025 and aims to create meaningful, long-term connections and build a future generation of young leaders in the UK and Japan.
Afterward, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh met with the Crown Prince and Crown Princess Akishino at their residence.
In the garden at the Akasaka Residence, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh planted an oak sapling taken from the commemorative tree planted by Queen Elizabeth II during her state visit to Japan in 1975.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh then watched a Sumo Wrestling Tournament at Ryogoku Kokugikan National Sumo Arena.
In the evening, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh met with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at the Imperial Residence.
The Duchess of Edinburgh first wore a Valentino printed dress with her Jimmy Choo pumps and her Beauchamps of London clutch. She paired the outfit with her Asprey of London and her Giulia Barela bracelets.
The Duchess of Edinburgh then wore a Gabriela Hearst dress with repeated pumps and her Sophie Habsburg clutch.
