King Felipe and Queen Letizia mark 47th anniversary of the 1978 Constitution

On Tuesday, King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended the institutional event marking the 47th anniversary of the 1978 Constitution at the Cortes Generales in Madrid. This week, the 1978 Constitution surpassed the 1876 Constitution in longevity, thus becoming the longest-lasting Fundamental Law in the history of Spain.

In his speech, King Felipe said: “Let us never succumb to complacency upon seeing the finished product, nor to the defeatism of thinking that the efforts of generations of Spaniards have been in vain. Let us have vision and perspective. The path traveled by this constitutional Spain has been brilliant, and the future will be no less so, as long as we continue to write it together. In celebrating the longevity of our Constitution, we become aware of what we owe it; of what we owe ourselves, as citizens, as democrats, and as Spaniards. And this awareness is not limited to the letter of the Constitution, but extends to the entire constitutional framework: the laws and the institutions. It obliges us to respect, defend, develop, and strengthen it. The best way to commemorate the Constitution is to uphold it.”

Queen Letizia wore a repeated navy suit with her Magrit pumps and her Magrit bag. She paired the outfit with her Aldao Joyeros earrings and her Coreterno ring.
