Regal Review: King Willem-Alexander's Inauguration Ceremony

Seven years ago today, Queen Beatrix abdicated for her son King Willem-Alexander. While we took a look at Queen Beatrix’s last gala dinner as Queen of the Netherlands yesterday, today’s Regal Review posts will celebrate King Willem-Alexander’s accession to the throne and the festivities hosted by the Dutch royal family!

In the morning of April 30th, 2013, Queen Beatrix officially abdicated - thus becoming Princess Beatrix- while Willem-Alexander and Maxima became King and Queen of the Netherlands.

Maxima wore a new outfit by Natan. It was custom made for the new Queen and featured a signature big bow on the shoulder. The King and Queen’s daughters looked lovely wearing Pili Carrera yellow dresses.

In the afternoon, the inauguration ceremony of the new King took place at Nieuwe Kerk with the entire Dutch royal family in attendance as well as foreign royal guests.

Queen Maxima looked absolutely stunning wearing a royal blue gown with an embroidered overlay and a matching cape. For her first tiara appearance as Queen of the Netherlands, she decided to wear the Mellerio Sapphire Tiara.

Princess Beatrix wore a royal blue printed gown while Princess Mabel wore a black Viktor & Rolf gown with a white bow sleeve. The bow and the designer were a nod to her wedding gown.
