The Duchess of Edinburgh visits the Democratic Republic of Congo

This week, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited the Democratic Republic of Congo as part of her work for the Women, Peace, and Security. The visit built on her previous visit to the country in 2022.

During her visit, the Duchess of Edinburgh met with UN peacekeepers to hear about MONUSCO’s role in protecting civilians, supporting stabilisation efforts, and assisting the Congolese government with governance and security reforms. 

She also visited Virunga Origins Café, an official partner of Virunga National Park, to hear about how the National Park provides jobs, champions women’s leadership, generates clean energy, and protects this uniquely biodiverse landscape.

The Duchess of Edinburgh also visited the Beni General Hospital to meet clinicians providing lifesaving UK-funded sexual and reproductive health services to CRSV survivors. 
In Beni, the Duchess of Edinburgh also spent time with survivors to hear about their experiences and the support that they receive.

In Kinshasa, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited the newly expanded Panzi Clinic and met with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Dr Denis Mukwege. During her visit to the clinic, she watched as Dr Mukwege performed reparative surgery on a rape victim. She also announced that she is working with the Scar Free Foundation, of which she is Patron, to create a partnership with the Panzi Clinic.

The Duchess of Edinburgh also visited a safe house supporting survivors of a mass rape which took place during a mass escape attempt from Kinshasa’s Makala Central Prison in September 2024.

To conclude her visit, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited the Kintambo General Hospital, where she met with patients and staff to better understand what measures are being put in place to strengthen the national health system.

On Monday, the Duchess of Edinburgh first wore a green shirt with her Paige trousers and her Giulia Barela ring.

The Duchess of Edinburgh then wore her Lexy London dress with her TOMS shoes and her Giulia Barela ring.

On Tuesday, the Duchess of Edinburgh wore a white top with a Lexy London skirt and her TOMS shoes. She paired the outfit with her Giulia Barela earrings, her Asprey London bracelet, and her Giulia Barela ring.

In the evening, the Duchess of Edinburgh wore her Max Mara dress with her Prada pumps and her Sophie Habsburg clutch. She also wore her Giulia Barela earrings.

On Wednesday, the Duchess of Edinburgh first wore her Max Mara dress with her Penelope Chilvers wedges. She paired the outfit with her Giulia Barela earrings, her Asprey London bracelet, and her Giulia Barela ring.

In the evening, the Duchess of Edinburgh wore her Raishma dress with her Penelope Chilvers wedges. She also wore her Giulia Barela earrings and ring.

On Thursday, the Duchess of Edinburgh wore her Max Mara blazer with her Erdem printed dress and her Penelope Chilvers wedges. She also wore her Adore Jewels earrings.
