King Carl Gustaf's 80th Birthday Celebrations - Te Deum & City Hall Lunch

On Thursday, King Carl Gustaf celebrated his 80th birthday with his family and foreign royal guests and heads of state in Stockholm.
In the morning, the Swedish Royal Family attended the Te Deum service in the Palace Chapel at the Royal Palace.

Foreign royal guests included King Frederik and Queen Mary, Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte, Grand Duke and Grand Duchess Stéphanie, as well as Grand Duke Henri.

The service was officiated by Chief Chaplain Johan Dalman and Michael Bjerkhagen, pastor of the Royal Court Assembly.

Afterward, King Carl Gustaf, joined by Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Carl Philip, went to the Outer Courtyard to preside over the military parade in honor of his birthday.

King Carl Gustaf then received flowers from young children who were in the audience at the Outer Courtyard.

King Carl Gustaf then joined his family and his guests, now including King Harald, Queen Sonja, and Princess Beatrix, on the terrace of Lejonbacken as the Swedish Air Force conducted a flyover. He was also honored with a large singing tribute from Norrbro, arranged by the Royal Academy of Music. The singing tribute brought together six prominent choirs from all over Sweden and included the premiere of the newly written choral work Skapande vår .

In the afternoon, the City of Stockholm hosted a lunch at City Hall in honor of the King. The King and Queen arrived at City Hall in a Volvo PV60 from the year the King was born, 1946.

The Swedish Royal Family and the Foreign Royal Guests also attended this official lunch.

In his speech, King Carl Gustaf said: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the City of Stockholm for inviting me here today, on my birthday. And of course, for the generosity of hosting this luncheon for me and my international guests. I am especially pleased that our foreign visitors will have the opportunity to experience this wonderful building. This is where we come together each year to celebrate the Nobel Prize laureates. To have the opportunity to celebrate my 80th birthday here therefore feels very special – and very much “at home”!”

Queen Silvia wore a blue dress and coat from German designer Georg et Arend with a matching hat. She paired this with a new Bottega Veneta clutch. She wore her Brunate taupe heels and pearls from the Bernadotte collections.

Crown Princess Victoria wore her military uniform for the Te Deum service as well as taking the salute in the courtyard. She wore simple gold and silver hoop earrings.

For lunch, she changed into a white midi dress from Self Portrait which she paired with her Philip Treacy hat worn for Prince Oscar’s christening. She accessorized with a threefold clutch from Toteme, pearl earrings from the Bernadotte Vaults and Gianvito Rossi pumps.

Princess Estelle wore a sky blue dress from Self-Portrait under her mother’s Prada wool coat. She wore Marzio Scala pumps and borrowed her mother’s Bottega Veneta bag as well as wearing earrings from her mother’s jewelry box.

Prince Oscar wore a black suit with navy tie. When outside, he added a navy jacket.

Princess Sofia wore a Roland Mouret midi dress in light blue. She accessorized with an oversized hat, Christian Louboutin pumps and Susan Szatmary x Bolon bag. Her earrings came from the Bernadotte Collections and on her wrist she had a collection of bracelets. When outside, she added a camel colored capelet and Handsome Stockholm gloves.

Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel, and Prince Julian all wore a navy double breasted suit with light blue shirts and navy ties.

Princess Ines wore a Liberty printed dress from Friki with shoes from Next.

Princess Madeleine wore a navy coat from Safiyaa over a Victoria Beckham midi dress. She began the day in Manolo Blahnik heels before changing to lower heel height from Marzio in Stockholm. She carried a bag from Toteme and wore diamond stud earrings and a diamond tennis necklace for accessories. She also wore a navy hat by Lock & Co.

Princess Leonore wore a matching set from Tartine et Chocolat with coordinating pink ballet flats.

Prince Nicolas wore a navy suit with light blue tie.

Princess Adrienne wore a matching set from Tartine et Chocolat with coordinating pink ballet flats. She later changed her shoes for the choral tribute and flyover.

Queen Sonja wore a repeated fuchsia and white outfit with her Peter Kaiser pumps.

Queen Mary wore a Christian Dior skirt suit with a repeated blouse. She paired the outfit with her Gianvito Rossi snakeskin pumps and a repeated straw clutch. She also wore a Susanne Juul hat and her Bruun Rasmussen diamond earrings.

Queen Margrethe wore a fuchsia outfit with her Marc Jacobs bag and a Mathilde Førster hat.

Princess Benedikte wore her Wichmann Couture outfit with her Salvatore Ferragamo bag.

Grand Duchess Stéphanie wore a Claire Mischevani red cape with a Claire Mischevani red midi dress. She paired the outfit with Prada nude pumps and a matching Prada clutch. She also wore an headband by Sylvia Martinez and her Chaumet ring.
