Regal Review: 2015 Spanish State Visit to France - Day 1
Five years ago today, King Felipe and Queen Letizia started a three days state visit to France. The state visit had originally been scheduled in March 2015 but on the first day of the visit, a plane which departed from Barcelona crashed in the French Alps and thus the state visit was postponed.
On June 2nd, 2015, King Felipe and Queen Letizia were officially welcomed by French President François Hollande at the Arc de Triomphe. Following the ceremony, the royal couple and the French President had a meeting at the Elysée Palace.
In the afternoon, King Felipe and Queen Letizia visited the exhibition Velazquez and the Triumph of Spanish Painting showing the works of Spanish artist Diego Velazquez.
In the evening, King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended a gala dinner hosted by François Hollande at the Elysée Palace. Before the dinner, the royal couple and the president met and honored the emergency responders who helped during the Germanwings plane crash.
For the arrival, Letizia wore a Felipe Varela skirt suit with lace detailing on the sleeves with a Felipe Varela clutch, snakeskin pumps, and Folli Follie earrings.
To visit the Velazquez exhibition, Letizia wore a navy shirt with a Carolina Herrera floral printed skirt. She accessorized with Carolina Herrera navy sandals, a Felipe Varela matching clutch and TOUS earrings.
For the gala dinner, Letizia wore a bespoke Felipe Varela burgundy embellished dress with a Felipe Varela clutch and Lodi burgundy pumps.
Stay tuned as we continue looking back on this state visit in our Regal Review post tomorrow!
