King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visit Walcheren Region

On Tuesday, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima paid a regional visit to Walcheren in the Zeeland province.

They first visited the Scheldekwartier in Vlissingen where the shipyard De Schelde was located and where a residential and working area with new construction is now being created. They learned more about the development of the district and the first results of the package of measures 'Wind in de zeil'.

Afterward, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the Joint Research Center Zeeland in Middelburg. They visited the laboratories and talked to students and representatives of companies about their research projects in the fields of water, energy and food.

The Royal Couple then visited Veere where they walked through the historic centre and learned more about the history of the city.

On the steps of the Old City Hall, the mayor presents the gilded silver cup of Maximilian of Burgundy to King Willem-Alexander, who is also the Marquis of Veere and Vlissingen. The cup was made in the 16th century by order of Emperor Charles V and donated to the city by Maximilian of Burgundy. The Marquis of Veere and Vlissingen is the only one who is allowed to drink from the cup and does so during their first visit to Veere as monarch.

In Serooskerke, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the fresh water basin where they met with representatives of knowledge institutions and users to discuss reusing water and the collaboration between water users and water managers.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima concluded their visit at a beach pavilion in Domburg where they heard more about the challenges surrounding the preservation of the scenic and ecological quality of the coast and the appeal of the Zeeland beaches to tourism and the consequences thereof for the quality of life.

Queen Maxima wore her Natan Couture dress with her Gianvito Rossi pumps and her Sophie Habsburg clutch. She paired the outfit with a Fabienne Delvigne headpiece matching her dress. In the afternoon, Queen Maxima changed into her Salvatore Ferragamo loafers.
