The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh visit Japan - Day 3
On Sunday, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh spent their third day in Japan, visiting Koyasan. Koyasan is an active monastic site that serves as the centre of Shingon Buddhism in Japan. They first visited the Sojiin Temple, a historical temple founded during the Kyuan era of the Heian period.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were shown around Danjo Garan by children from Koyasan, who are learning English through an innovative British Council programme that helps this historic town welcome international visitors while preserving its traditions.
Afterward, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh visited the Okunoin Cemetery, which houses the mausoleum of Kobo Daishi, a Buddhist monk who founded the Shingon school of Buddhism.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh also visited the Reihoukan Museum which aims to display and protect Buddhist art owned by temples.
The Duchess of Edinburgh wore her Altuzarra jacket with her Max Mara dress, her Penelope Chilvers wedges, and her Sophie Habsburg clutch. She paired the outfit with her Giulia Barela earrings and rings. She later changed into her TOMS shoes.
