Danish State Visit to Finland - Day 2

On Tuesday, King Frederik and Queen Mary officially started their state visit to Finland. They were officially welcomed by President Alexander Stubb, and his spouse, Mrs. Suzanne Innes-Stubb at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki.

Afterward, King Frederik and President Stubb hosted a delegation meeting while Queen Mary and Mrs Innes-Stubb visited Helsinki New Children’s Hospital.

The Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple then attended an official luncheon at City Hall hosted by the Mayor of Helsinki Juhana Vartiainen.

King Frederik and Queen Mary also visited the Parliament of Finland where they met with the Speaker of the Parliament of Finland Jussi Halla-aho, the two deputy speakers as well as the chairs of the parliamentary groups in the Finnish Parliament.

The Royal Couple then met with Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo and Mrs. Niina Kannianen-Orpo at their official residence Kesäranta.

The Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple visited the Merihaka civil defence shelter. The shelter is a part of Finland’s civil defence and serves as protection for the residents of Helsinki during crises but is also used in peacetime for recreational purposes such as sports activities.

Afterward, King Frederik and Queen Mary took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at Hietaniemi Cemetery. They laid a wreath at the Hero’s Cross, a wreath at Marshal Mannerheim’s grave, and a wreath at the monument honoring Danish volunteers who fell during the Winter War in 1939-1940.

In the evening, the Presidential Couple hosted a state dinner for King Frederik and Queen Mary at the Presidential Palace.

Queen Mary first wore a Max Mara coat with her Prada blouse (with thanks to Emma), a grey skirt, her Gianvito Rossi grey boots, and a burgundy clutch. She paired the outfit with her Jane Taylor hat. Later in the day, she changed into Gianvito Rossi black boots.

In the evening, Queen Mary wore her Jesper Høvring gown with her Prada clutch. She also wore Queen Caroline Amalie's gold tiara with antique gems and Princess Vilhelmine Marie's bracelet with Vesuvius stone.
